Martin's Memo

MARTIN’S MEMO…

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. As we move into the holiday season, it reminds us all how fortunate we are to have such a caring community. I want to thank you all for attending parent-teacher conferences, as well as two hundred and seven visitors to the building during our National Education Week visitation. We appreciate all you do to support children at home, and we thank you for joining our partnership in “Learning for all, whatever it takes!”
We are moving into the second trimester with a bang! There are so many exciting events happening at South to support learning. A huge thank you to the PTO who has provided funds to allow us to bring in a representative from the Lake Forest Wildlife Discovery Center along with his many snakes; participate in the Art Adventure Program; and have a wonderfully successful Book Fair raising $4500! State Representative Kathy Ryg visited with the second graders and firefighter Tony was here to discuss fire safety. Looking to December, we are excited to be participating in a nation-wide reading incentive – READ 2008. On December 7 we will have a Pajama Day and cuddle up with good books. At 2:00, the whole school will drop everything and read for 2008 seconds. (A.M. Kindergarten will participate in the morning.) Thanks once more to the PTO for providing milk and cookies to top off the event.
This month, our class meetings will focus on relationships between students and teachers, being a good friend to others, and the joy of giving.
Thank you again for your continued support. As always, if you have any questions or input, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me. I can be reached at martinj@hawthorn73.org or (847) 990-4800.
Wishing you a happy, healthy holiday season!
All the best,
Jill Martin
