Elementary South Art Contest Winners

Congratulations to the Hawthorn Flag Contest Winners and our own Hawthorn Elementary South Honorable Mention Winners, Jackie Luna and Tyler Schaefer. More than 75 students submitted wonderful designs to the Hawthorn Flag Contest. The grand prize goes to Edgar Nevarez, an 8th grader at Hawthorn Middle School North, for his Hawthorn Eagle surrounded by multicultural faces. Edgar has won a $100 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble bookstore, and his design will be made into an actual flag. Three designs were also selected for honorable mention awards. Congratulations to Tyler Schaefer, a 2nd grader at Elementary South, for his bright yellow flag with blue words and the Hawthorn Eagle. Jacqueline Luna, a 5th grader at Elementary South, earned honors for her detailed eagle and crest with the numeral "73." Jennifer Cheng, a 6th grader at Middle North, drew an eagle head surrounded by flags representing our students and families. All four artists will be recognized at the November 26 meeting of the Hawthorn Board of Education. Congratulations to all of our students for their tremendous efforts!
