Martin's Memo
Tra La La La La…. Can you believe the amazing talent from our students at this year’s Open House performances? A huge THANK YOU to our music teachers: Kathy Rossett, Katie Bartel, Pam Lutter, and Ame Schaefges for all their hard work preparing the students for our shows. They sang their hearts out and the classrooms looked great! What a fun event!
May brings us many exciting activities at Elementary South. In early May, we will be facilitating Spring MAP/DIBELS testing. This important testing session will give us data to monitor how much progress has been made in reading and math strands this school year.
Teacher appreciation week is approaching. We have had an overwhelming response to show our teachers how much they are appreciated. I want you all to know how much I appreciate all that the teachers do for our students each and every day. What an amazing staff!!
End of the year picnics are approaching! More information will be coming soon!
Thank you again for your continued support. As always, if you have any questions or input, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me. I can be reached at martinj@hawthorn73.org or (847) 990-4800.
All the best,
Jill Martin
Zephyr !
As a culmination of our school wide Bernstein Unit on relationships, Zephyr Dance Company visited Hawthorn Elementary South School for three fun filled days of dancing and using movement to understand both relationships and educational concepts. On Monday, April 28, the whole school came together to watch the dancers perform pieces from their adult concerts. All children also participated in their own performances showing how they connected movement with their curriculum. Not only did the students perform, but each student wore their very own new name shirt which had an original “Picasso” type drawing on the back showing a depiction of positive relationships at South. This is certainly an experience that our children will never forget!
Way to go – Hawthorn!
